About Julie

My name is Julie and I just love baking real bread and sharing this knowledge with people.  My other passion is singing, especially traditional folk songs which tell the stories of times gone by. I love being outdoors therefore I would much rather be outside baking and singing than anywhere else!

I would  really say my greatest joy(after my children of course) is the singing. Baking bread is more an excuse to get people together to meet and chat over a shared activity.  Still, it is wonderful to have fresh bread to eat at the end of it

Many of these songs are seasonal and feature the traditional crafts of baking and milling.  I was wondering how I could incorporate these two things…. and thus Eat, Bake, Sing was born! 💛😀

My Passions

Bread baking is a very therapeutic activity.  As well as creating something that is healthy and nutritious to eat (I use the best organic flour whenever possible) the process in itself is good for us – mind, body and soul!

Did you know the origin of the word “companion” actually comes from the latin “con pane” meaning with bread?!

The act of kneading bread dough can be done mindfully and carefully, in silence if you want to.  Or it can be done quickly or…… not at all (as long as you follow the correct ‘no-knead’ recipe!).

Or if you want something different I will sing you a traditional English baking song or a ballad about a Miller – something to take you back and connect you with your ancestors, who more than likely also participated in the exact same process of turning flour, water, salt and yeast into bread.

Many people (in fact most) who have attended one of my baking sessions ask the question “How long do you knead the dough?”

In all honesty I rarely follow recipes at home – it is almost an instinctive process, especially when it comes to sourdough baking.

With regards to kneading there is no right and wrong answer, even though the correct thing to say would be “until the gluten is developed”.  I just say “for the length of a song” 😂🍞🎶

My Goals

As of September 2022 I am currently writing a memoir about my experiences as a pregnant woman, the POWER that it brought me as well as the STRENGH it has allowed me to tap into since the birth of my latest child

The POWER too held within the human voice as a tool to access the unconscious

I hope you will bear with me as I have many simultaneous creative projects – I want to do everything! The whole of life is creative ! I used to think I wasn’t actually very creative at all but what can be more creative than creating life itself
